Types of Books NeededWe can use most types of new or like new books appropriate for Pre-K through 12th grade. Books with minor flaws or small inscriptions can be repaired. Textbooks, encyclopedias, magazines or books that are obviously worn cannot be accepted. Donate BooksSmall quantities of books can be delivered at any time during business hours to the United Way at 4949 E. Kings Canyon, Suite #109. If you have a large quantity we can arrange to have them picked up. Conduct a Book DriveBusinesses, service clubs, schools, youth groups, and churches can conduct a book drive to help restock the bank. We can help you organize a drive, provide collection bins, and arrange to pick up the books at the conclusion of the drive. VolunteerAssistance is needed to sort, repair and prepare books for distribution. If you would like to help, call us or submit the Volunteer Interest Form. All sorting takes place at the United Way of Fresno County building. Groups that would like to perform community service can arrange for a time and date convenient for them. Donate Money or SuppliesIn-kind or dollar donations are needed to help defray operational expenses including storage and distribution supplies, bookplates and book cleaning materials. In addition, while the majority of our books are collected through book drives, some books in short supply are purchased for special needs or reading levels. Bucks for Books ProgramBusinesses, service groups or individuals can adopt a qualifying organization or school of their choice by making a deposit at the book bank. For each $2 deposited, a new book will be provided to the selected recipient. For example, a $1,000 donation will result in a teacher, school library, club, or group receiving 500 brand new books in the name of the donor. Book Bank PatronsBusinesses, organizations, or individuals can become sustaining supporters of the Central Valley Book Bank. Our goal to support all types of literacy, youth, and family service programs strikes at the heart of economic prosperity and a healthy community. Patrons providing financial or in-kind support receive exposure on our marketing pieces as well as our website. Please contact us if you are interested in discussing the possibility of providing ongoing assistance. |
