Bank Withdrawals

Opening an Account

In order to be considered for a distribution of books an organization or school must submit an Account Registration Form. Only schools servicing low income neighborhoods and non-profit organizations targeting economically and socially disadvantaged youth are eligible to receive books. Students and youth targeted by nonprofit organizations must be the direct beneficiaries of the books. Once you have registered and been qualified, you will be eligible to apply for books.

How to Apply for a Book Withdrawal

Organizations who have an account at the bank can apply for books by submitting a Book Withdrawal Request 3-4 weeks in advance of when the books are needed.

• Schools with multiple teachers participating in the withdrawal will be scheduled for a “Free for All” event during which they will be allowed to select books from the inventory at the book bank.
• Non-school organizations awarded books can pick them up from the United Way. Representatives from the recipient organization may be asked to select the books to insure the appropriateness of the books for their needs.

Types of Books Available

The type and quantity of books available at any point in time are variable. However, we generally have a supply of paperback and hardcover books appropriate for Pre-K through high school, both fiction and nonfiction. In addition, we have a supply of Spanish, bi-lingual, activity, teacher resource, entertainment, and character books.

Quality of Books Available

Books available for distribution may be new or slightly used. Most show very little, if any, wear. A CVBB bookplate or label may have been used to cover a name written inside of the book’s cover. Depending on the individual book, it may be appropriate to give to a child as a gift or for use in a lending library. In addition, we have a quantity of “useable” books that show more wear, but are still very readable.
